CHITTENDEN, Vt. — Chittenden firefighters are mourning the loss of Captain Charlie Parker, who died after fighting a barn fire on July 8.

On social media, the department stated firefighters responded to a barn fire at approximately 5 p.m. Afterward, Parker returned a fire tanker to the station and was later found unresponsive, WCAX reported.

Assistant Chief Conrad Zeller told the Rutland Herald that he found Parker unresponsive on the floor. Zeller and other firefighters administered CPR and called Regional Ambulance.

Parker, 74, had been a member for over 40 years. Assistant Fire Chief Conrad Zeller says his loss will leave a significant void in the department and the broader community.
